An Interesting Full Day in Delhi
We had one full day to explore, Dill walon ki Dilli. We hired a car to go around the city. The driver took us to Old Delhi area. The driver parked the car in the near by parking lot. We took a rickshaw from their, and went to Jamma Masjid - largest Islamic mosque in Delhi. From Jamma Masjid, he brought us to the Red Fort. It was a Monday and the fort was closed. So, had to contend myself taking pictures. I asked the driver to position the rickshaw in front of the fort so I can have my picture taken with it. This attracted some attention as many locals gathered in front of me while my picture was taken. They find it very amusing that I had my picture taken with rickshaw.
Then the next difficult phase started, we had to find our car driver. We went to the car park and found the car but no driver! The rickshaw driver insisted that we first go around to other places and come back later. But we have no more time to see other places so asked him to find the driver. So, we accompanied the rickshaw driver to find our driver and there he was waiting for us at the entrance of the Masjid.
Off to the next tourist spots - the Rajghat - tomb of Mahatma Gandhi. Quiet and solemn place especially with the instrumental music being played in the area. From there, we proceeded to the India Gate. You can see that India is "Moving ahead faster". Lots of construction going on - mass rail transit, road widenings, flyovers, etc.
Last stop was in the area of Connaught Place, the heart of the city. There we roamed around the inner circle and the best of all shopping places “ The Palika Bazaar”. It has many levels underground where you can find many items. Got lost underground but did not mind as we went around looking anything interesting.
It was a tiring day but an interesting day.
